Vipers SC maintained their grip on top of the Uganda Premier League table after edging UPDF FC 2–1 in a hard-fought contest in Bombo.
The Venoms required a late strike from Karim Watambala after Enrique Lubwama had cancelled out Usama Arafat’s earlier opener.
After a goalless first half, Vipers broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Usama Arafat rose highest to head home from a Chukwuma Odili free kick.
The hosts responded late in the game and found an equaliser in the 80th minute.

Vipers failed to clear a set piece and Enrique Lubwama capitalised, firing from outside the area with the effort deflecting off Rogers Torach before beating the goalkeeper.
However, Vipers restored their lead five minutes later. Gusto Mulongo beat his marker on the flank before picking out Watambala in space, and the midfielder struck powerfully past Kamya Shamulan to seal the victory.
The result means Vipers complete a league double over UPDF, having earlier thrashed the army side 5–1 in the first round at Kitende.

Vipers now move to 47 points at the summit, four ahead of second-placed Kitara FC with 10 matches remaining in the season.
UPDF, coached by Alex Gitta, remain second from bottom on 13 points after 20 games and are still searching for their first victory in 11 league matches.
