Cameroon head coach David Pagou has insisted his team will not change their approach despite already sealing qualification to the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.
Cameroon face Mozambique in their final Group F match on New Year’s Eve at the Grand Stade d’Agadir, with both teams already through to the knockout stage. While the result will decide final group positions, Pagou says his focus remains the same.
“We will change nothing with our planning and ambitions even though we are already qualified,” Pagou said ahead of the match. “Our mission is to come here and do our best.”
The Indomitable Lions have grown steadily into the tournament. After a win over Gabon, they followed it with a disciplined 1–1 draw against defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, a performance that boosted confidence in the camp.
Pagou acknowledged the threat posed by Mozambique, who are enjoying a historic AFCON campaign. The Mambas qualified for the knockout stages for the first time and are coming off their first ever AFCON win, a 3–2 victory over Gabon.
“We have analyzed how they play and we know they are a really good team,” Pagou said. “They want to play the ball and do so as a block. They also have a very good coach who understands this competition very well.”
Despite that respect, the Cameroon coach made it clear his side will stick to the same mindset that has brought them this far.
“We are not worried,” he added. “We know they will be a difficult opponent, but we are focused on our own work.”
