Police FC pulled off a stunning result as they defeated KCCA FC 2-0 at the Kira Road Arena in Kamwokya on Tuesday as the Uganda Premier League returned from the AFCON break.
After a cagey first half that produced few clear-cut chances, the game came to life after the break. Police FC broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute through Brian Obedi, who volleyed home after Dennis Kalanzi had headed the ball into his path.
The hosts continued to press and were rewarded with a second goal later in the half. Once again, Kalanzi was the provider, with his header looping over Emojong and fell kindly for Bedia Ikamba, who tapped into an empty net to seal the victory.
The result hands KCCA FC their second defeat of the season, following an earlier loss to Vipers SC at Kitende, and dents their early title push.
Police FC head coach Matia Lule praised his players for their performance, highlighting their determination and improved cutting edge after the interval.
“The boys just put up a good show today. They showed from the start that they wanted to win and played their hearts out,” Lule said. “In the first half, we didn’t create much, but we got the cutting edge in the second half and that proved the difference.”
The win lifts Police FC to third place on the league table with 24 points, three ahead of leaders Vipers SC.
Despite the strong position, Lule played down talk of a title challenge, insisting the team remains focused on steady improvement.
“Our focus is not about winning the league. We just want to play better each game,” he added.
