Four Ugandan crews have been flagged off to represent the country at the upcoming WRC Safari Rally in Kenya.
The team was officially seen off by the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) together with the National Council of Sports (NCS) ahead of the rally scheduled for March 12–15, 2026.
The Safari Rally, which is the third round of the World Rally Championship and will also serve as the opening round of the 2026 African Rally Championship, has attracted more than 60 crews from around the world.
Uganda will be represented by African champion Yasin Nasser and his navigator Ally Katumba in the WRC2 class.
They are joined by 2020/21 national champion Duncan Mubiru, popularly known as “Kikankane,” who will be navigated by Joseph Kamya.
The KCB-sponsored crew of Oscar Ntambi and Uthumaan Mohammed will also be in action, alongside Timothy Gawaya who will be navigated by Francis Wamala.
While flagging off the team, FMU Vice President in charge of Administration, Hajji Hamidu Gombe, applauded the drivers for their commitment to representing Uganda at the international level. He also thanked the government for its continued support towards the development of motorsport.
At NCS, Assistant General Secretary Milton Chebet commended KCB Bank for supporting a local driver to compete on the world stage, noting that such partnerships are important for the growth of the sport.
“We thank KCB Bank for their continued support of our drivers. This partnership is vital in providing the technical and financial backing necessary for our drivers to compete and excel on the global stage,” Chebet said.
In support of the crews, NCS, through the federation, provided each driver with a package of 10 million shillings to facilitate their participation in the Safari Rally.
Speaking about his targets, Mubiru, who last competed in the 2022 Safari Rally, said he is aiming for a strong performance in Kenya.
“I am out to enjoy and entertain my fans first, then getting points will be second,” he said.
