Senegal heads to CAS after CAF ruling

The Senegalese Football Federation will take its case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport following a ruling by the Confederation of African Football Appeals Jury.

Senegal have been striped of the AFCON 2025 title they won on January 18 when they beat hosts Morocco in a controversial final in Rabat.

CAF overturned an earlier disciplinary decision and ruled in favour of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation in a dispute arising from a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final match.

The Appeals Jury found that Senegal breached competition regulations and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory by forfeit.

The FSF has rejected the decision, describing it as unjust and unacceptable. It argues that the ruling damages the credibility of African football.

Senegal’s football body says it will urgently file an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne as it seeks to overturn the decision.

Senegal captain Sadio Mane has issued a statement via his Instagram, saying: “We won that trophy with our sweat and our hearts on the pitch in Rabat.”

“To take it away in a boardroom months later is not football. I went into that dressing room to bring my brothers back because we wanted to prove we were the best through play, not politics.

“This decision hurts every Senegalese person, but we know who the real champions are.”
