KCCA FC made light work of Onduparaka FC, winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 tie 5-0 to progress to the Quarterfinals.
After a 2-0 lead in the opening 45 minutes, Emmanuel Anyama scored a half brace and made an assist for Alex Yiga in a comprehensive victory at Lugogo.
Sammy Ssebaduka was at the far end to tap in from close range after a neat cross from Saidi Mayanja for the opening goal after 20 minutes.
The second arrived at the half-hour mark, with Ivan Ahimbisibwe heading Mayanja’s way to bundle in.
Anyama got the third later in the second half when he slid in a powerful cross from Lazaro Bwambale.
Anyama then set up Yiga for the fourth, before putting the ice on the cake with a beautiful header off Axel Mezui’s well delivered freekick.
The win is an extension of KCCA FC’s impressive form having won five on the bounce in the league.
But siting third, five points adrift of leaders Vipers, KCCA will be well aware that the Uganda Cup represents their most realistic shot at silverware this season.
They went all the way to the final last season, only to be beaten by Vipers at Kadiba.
It’s strong to note that KCCA FC coach Brian Ssenyondo won this competition two seasons back with Kitara.
KCCA, joint record winners, haven’t won the Uganda Cup since beating Vipers 1-0 in the 2018 final at Emokori ground in Bukedea.
For Onduparaka, who knocked out Football Classroom FC in the round of 32, will shift focus on Big League survival as they continue to languish in the red zone.
