Vipers SC kept pressure on leaders KCCA after a deserved 2-1 win away to Lugazi in a Uganda Premier League game on Wednesday in Najjembe.
Usama Arafat and Yunus Sentamu were on target for the Venoms while Ashraf Mulindi scored a late consolation for the hosts.
Usama scored from a rebound after eight minutes after Milton Karisa’s diving header off Enock Luyima’s cross was spilled by goalkeeper Juma Mutebi.
Vipers continued to press and almost doubled their lead through Chukwuma Odili only to be denied by the post.
They got their reward in the 75th minute through Sentamu who chased on a long ball from Robin Kane Hney, to loop over goalkeeper Mutebi.
Mulindi halved the deficit in the 89th minute after he was put through by David Bagoole before benefiting from poor goalkeeping by Alfred Mudekereza.
The win, seventh this season after 10 games, sees Vipers move to 24 points – two adrift of leaders KCCA FC who has played a game more.
Lugazi who are in the red zone, are on a five-game winless run, and remain on 10 points after 11 matches.
