Vipers finished it late against Calvary FC to maintain its grip at the top of the Uganda Premier League summit.
Bottom-side Calvary were on course for a stunning drawn before Gusto Mulongo delivered a blow in the 88th minute.
A long ball from Derrick Ndahiro was recycled back into play by Yunus Sentamu, finding Mulongo who bundled in from close range.
The goal was a sigh of relief for the Venoms, igniting wild celebrations from the crowd who had seen their side frustrated by the minnows for longer stretches.
The goal was met with aggressive protests from Calvary players who surrounded the first assistant referee, arguing that Sentamu was offside.
Vipers were good value for the result, but had wasted a couple of opportunities earlier.
Kevin Bady DaSilva’s header was denied by the bottom post off a Usama Arafat freekick while Rogers Torach’s long range effort was tipped over by Calvary goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru.
Vipers new signing Beyuku Munsi had an effort denied by a deflection while Usama saw his volley rattle the side.
For longer spells, it looked like Calvary were to collect a point at Kitende, as they did in the first round in Yumbe, but Vipers rode their luck this time.
Vipers remain top with 50 points, four above Kitara, after 21 matches.
Calvary on the other hand, sit bottom of the table with five points as they still search for their first victory in their debut season.
