Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put has named his final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Two players – goalkeeper Charles Lukwago (KCCA FC) and defender David Owori (SC Villa) – have been dropped from the team that has been camped in Morocco.
This has given a chance for a couple of players including teenager James Bogere to shine at a senior stage after impressing at the FIFA U17 World Cup with Uganda Cubs.
Midfielder Al Hassan Baba who features for Romanian side FCSB, and earned his first call up in November, is grateful for the opportunity.
“It’s a great feeling and pleasure to be part of this squad, and this will be my first Africa Cup of Nations tournament and I am very grateful for the opportunity and I hope to be part of the history,” said Baba.
“It’s a great achievement to be at this level because we had many good players.”
Uganda are pitted against Neighbours Tanzania, former winners Nigeria and Tunisia in the group.
Baba added: “Nigeria and Tunisia, these are top sides, playing against these teams is a privilege because they have top players and most play in Europe.
“All the games are very important, we have to be at our best. We need to take something from each game to move to the next stage.”
Five players – Denis Onyango, Salim Jamal, Isaac Muleme, Timothy Awany and Khalid Aucho – have played at Africa Cup of Nations before.
Additionally, Uganda Cranes will not play their friendly with Gabon, initially scheduled on Wednesday.
